You got some mad, mad, mad, mad, mad skills, Tex

I had a talk with a friend of mine, and once again managed to list off some of the skills I have that are related to gaming in some way. In short, every skill I have is related to gaming in some way. Without question!

Starting simple, I have money management skills wrought from having to choose between better weapons or better armor in old-school RPGs. I’ve got minor electrical skills from having to repair controllers, which helped me learn how to (theoretically) throw together an arcade stick. Painting skills from Warhammer 40,000 and Warmachine, knowing what sounds stupid in a story thanks to the last decade of JRPGs, and hell, just recently I’ve gained a bit of logic and reason from TCGs and listening to Kilroy talk all day.

(Of course, buying all those cards wasn’t too reasonable, but that’s another story.)

On top of all that, I also studied a bit of anthropology and sociology because I figured it’d be useful for spying on people, and some Japanese for obvious reasons.

Well, I’m sure a lot of folks out there in Internet Town have already recognized and exploited their own skills for fun/profit, but this is pretty much news for me. I’m pretty used to being broke and using what I know to make my brokeness more tolerable or at least ten times more FUN. Sometimes I think of ways to make mad money off what I do, but unlike Kilroy, I can never get a cohesive plan together.

Speaking of those trading card games, though, I need to polish up my Spoils deck some, for the magical, wonderous day when the game isn’t completely dead everywhere. On that day, I will rule as king of the WarBankers, or at least some kind of minor Duke!

Do you have any insight as to why the Spoils is so unpopular considering the massive amount of support given by its developers?

Part of it’s the market, chief. It’s seen countless CCGs fall over the past decade or so, many of which actually did have some merit. The only one that nearly everyone seems to play is Magic, which I see as this bloated old system that should’ve fallen on its own sword ages ago.

Also, this. The long and short of it is, they needed more money, some folks strung ‘em along and dumped ‘em, and then they ran out of money. Later best CCG ever.
